An Adaptive Projection Method for the Incompressible Euler Equations

چکیده
In this paper we present a method for solving the time-dependent incompressible Euler equations on an adaptive grid. The method is based on a projection formulation in which we first solve convection equations to predict intermediate velocities, and then project these velocities onto a space of approximately divergence-free vector fields. Our treatment of the convection step uses a specialized second-order upwind method for differencing the nonlinear convection terms that provides a robust treatment of these terms suitable for inviscid flow. Our approach to adaptive refinement uses a nested hierarchy of grids with simultaneous refinement ofthe grids in both space and time. The integration algorithm on the grid hierarchy is a recursive procedure in which a coarse grid is advanced, fine grids are advanced multiple steps to reach the same time as the *This work of these authors was performed under the aus-· pices of the U.S. Department of Energy by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under contract W-7405-Eng-4S. We will describe the integration algorithm in detail, with emphasis on the projection used to enforce the incompressibility constraint. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the convergence properties of the method and to illustrate the behavior of the method at the interface between coarse and fine grids. An additional example demonstrates the performance of the method on a more realistic problem.

A Cell-Centered Adaptive Projection Methodfor the Incompressible Euler Equations
We present an algorithm to compute adaptive solutions for incompressible flows using block-structured local refinement in both space and time. This method uses a projection formulation based on a cell-centered approximate projection, which allows the use of a single set of cell-centered solvers. Because of refinement in time, additional steps are taken to accurately discretize the advection and...

An adaptive mesh projection method for the time-dependent incompressible Euler equations is presented. The domain is spatially discretised using quad/octrees and a multilevel Poisson solver is used to obtain the pressure. Complex solid boundaries are represented using a volume-of-fluid approach. Second-order convergence in space and time is demonstrated on regular, statically and dynamically re...

Here we present a method for calculating time-dependent incompressible inviscid ow using a \Cartesian grid" approach for representing geometry. In this approach, the body is represented as an interface embedded in a regular Cartesian mesh. The basic algorithm is a fractional-step pr...
متن کاملStability of a Cartesian grid projection method for zero Froude number shallow water flows
In this paper a Godunov-type projection method for computing approximate solutions of the zero Froude number (incompressible) shallow water equations is presented. It is second-order accurate and locally conserves height (mass) and momentum. To enforce the underlying divergence constraint on the velocity field, the predicted numerical fluxes, computed with a standard second order method for hyp...
متن کاملA fourth-order auxiliary variable projection method for zero-Mach number gas dynamics
A fourth-order numerical method for the zero-Mach-number limit of the equations for compressible flow is presented. The method is formed by discretizing a new auxiliary variable formulation of the conservation equations, which is a variable density analog to the impulse or gauge formulation of the incompressible Euler equations. An auxiliary variable projection method is applied to this formula...
